چکیده

Materials inspired by nature comprise a running theme of modern science. Among the crystals that can be formed, diamond is perhaps most emblematic. In the conventional thinking, natural diamonds form only under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. Here we show a new, natural form of diamond crystals of high quality that are epitaxial with their ruby substrate. Diamonds in rubies are rare; heteroepitaxial diamonds are twice as unexpected. Epitaxy suggests that the natural diamonds in the rubies were formed after ruby crystallization in a thermodynamically diamond stable region. This striking natural control over diamond epitaxy suggests a general strategy by which to form naturally-inspired, gemquality crystals. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Detection of Polymer Brushes developed via Single Crystal Growth

Single crystals consisting various surface morphologies and epitaxial structures were applied to investigate the effect of other phase regions in the vicinity of a given tethered chains-covered area having a certain molecular weight of amorphous brushes. The designed experiments demonstrated that regardless of the type of surface morphology (patterned and especial mixed-brushes, homo and co...

Substantiation of Epitaxial Growth of Diamond Crystals on the Surface of Carbide Fe3AlC0.66 Phase Nanoparticles

Samples of Fe-Al-C alloys of varying composition were synthesized under high pressures and temperatures. From X-ray analysis data, only K-phase with usual for it average parameter of elemental lattice cell, a = 0.376 nm, carbide Fe3C and cubic diamond reflexes were present before and after cooling to the temperature of liquid nitrogen.Calculations were made of the parameters of unit cells, the ...

Chemical vapour deposition of oriented diamond nanocrystallites by a bias-enhanced nucleation method.

A microwave plasma chemical vapour deposition (MPCVD) system has been used to deposit nanometre-sized single-crystalline diamonds on 1 × 1 cm(2) Si(100) substrates. The distribution of deposited diamonds has good uniformity over the whole Si substrate surface by using a dome-shaped Mo anode which allows the application of bias-enhanced nucleation. The morphology and crystallinity of the deposit...

Fabrication of Low Dislocation Density, Single-Crystalline Diamond via Two-Step Epitaxial Lateral Overgrowth

Continuous diamond films with low dislocation density were obtained by two-step epitaxial lateral overgrowth (ELO). Grooves were fabricated by inductively coupled plasma etching. Mo/Pd stripes sputtered in the grooves were used to inhibit the propagation of dislocations originating from the diamond substrate. Coalescent diamond films were achieved by ELO via microwave plasma-enhanced chemical v...
